A client is about 70% through the program. Down 20 lbs. Went to a three-day conference, ate protein in his room while everyone else grazed the buffet spread. Came back lighter than when he left. He's locked in. And then last week, he asked me: "What does maintenance look like? What shifts when I hit the number?" This is the question that separates the men who keep it from the men who lose it all back. Because most guys never ask it. They hit the goal, exhale, and drift back to where they started. The number was the whole plan. Once it's gone, there's nothing underneath. Here's what I told him. The focus changes. You stop watching the scale and start reading yourself. Every meal has a job. Breakfast - am I sharp at work for the next four hours? And then the signals you didn't used to notice. You snapped at your kid over nothing. You might be depleted. You're standing in the kitchen at 9pm reaching for chips. Your body is telling you something. The body is talking. The work is learning what it's saying. The scale becomes one data point in a much bigger picture. You step on it, you note it, you move on. It doesn't run the show anymore. What runs the show is how you feel in your own skin during the hours that matter. The workout at 6am. The important meeting at 3. The bedtime routine at 8. That's when it sticks. P.S. If you hit a number before and it didn't stick - the program just never taught you what comes after.
